Our Story

Cone Distributing is a beverage distributor presently operating in 22 counties in north central Florida, with offices in Ocala and Tallahassee.

Douglas P. Cone, Jr. founded the company in 1985 when he was only 31 years old. Mr. Cone and his team built Team Cone on healthy and mutually profitable relationships by providing the right product, at the right time, in the right place.

Initially, the company’s territory was limited to only four rural counties and carried brands from just a few suppliers. Since the inception of the company, ownership and management have been very strategic and innovative in their approach to beer distribution in Florida.

Team Cone is committed to seeking the highest standards at every level, and our leadership team continuously looks for strategic growth opportunities in geographic territory and suppliers.

Our History

WE’VE COME A LONG WAY

1985

Founded

Founding of Team Cone, Inc. by Douglas P. Cone, Jr., and members of his family through the acquisition of T.M. Mehaffey, of Ocala, Florida.

1986

Distribution Rights

Acquired distribution rights for Corona family of brands in Marion, Citrus, Sumter, and Hamilton counties.

1986

Distribution Rights

Acquired the distribution rights of Adolph Coors Brewing Company, Pabst Brewing Company, Stroh Brewing Company, G. Heileman Brewing Company, and assorted import suppliers (including Corona) in Alachua, Levy, Dixie, Gilchrest, and Bradford counties.

1986

Purchase

Purchased the rights to Apex North Florida Distributing.

1992

First In Florida Award

First distributor in Florida to be awarded distribution rights to the brands from the Boston Beer Company. Purchased Apex Central Florida Distributing.

1998

Distribution Rights

Acquired the beer distribution rights for Miller Brewing Company, the Adolph Coors Brewing Company and numerous craft and specialty import suppliers for 9 counties in north Florida.

2002

High Life Achievement

Won the first of several “High Life Achievement” Awards from Miller Brewing.

2008

Distribution Rights

Acquired the beverage distribution rights for approximately 40 craft and specialty import suppliers from Southern Wines and Spirits and J.J. Taylor; our portfolio contained about 75-80 suppliers.

2011

New Location

Completed construction of new 160,000 square foot facility on 44th Avenue in Ocala.

2013

Awards

Awarded beverage distribution rights by New Belgium Brewing for all brands in 22 counties.

Doug Cone named a MillerCoors Legend at national meeting for MillerCoors.

2014

Distribution Rights

Awarded distribution rights for Dr. Pepper Snapple Group (DPSG) for 17 counties.

2017

6 Million

Volume of 6 million cases sold.

2017

Distribution Rights

Awarded distribution rights for Coppertail Brewing Company.

2018

Distribution Rights

Awarded distribution rights for Fish Hawk Spirits.

Acquired distribution rights for Funky Buddha Brewery and Ballast Point Brewing Company.

2019

Awards

Voted to Florida Trend Magazine’s 2019 list of “Best Companies to Work For in Florida.

2020

Distribution Rights

Awarded Oyster City Brewing Company distribution rights in nine counties.

New Location

Team Cone Ocala moved into new building at 1551 Northwest Avenue in Ocala.
